MICRO-REUNION CHARLESTON
In the weekend before Homecoming 2013, former Editor in Chief Tom Keefe stopped by campus. Tom met up with former Eastern News staffers Brian Nielsen and Herb Meeker to watch EIU's very own, Tony Romo, play football for the Cowboys.
FYI, a new edition of -30- has been sent to alumni. It contains more information on the Endowment Fund drive and plans for the Daily Eastern's News' 100th Anniversary. A birthday bash is tentatively set for November 7, 2015.

100th ANNIVERSARY
You will probably receive a letter from Student Publications this week.
It begins the official campaign for the 100th anniversary of the Eastern News, which will be November 6, 2015. The EIU Foundation and the Journalism Department are kicking off the "Publishing for the Next 100 Years" campaign with the goal of raising a $100,000 endowment to benefit the Eastern News.
The Department seeks to solicit large donors (campaign "publishers") and former Eastern News staffs in order to reach its goal.
The correspondence also indicates that the Department will be throwing an anniversary celebration in 2015.

EIU HOMECOMING NORTH
To say the Journalism North reunion was "packed" would be vague understatement. The reunion was held in a near north side Chicago converted two flat bar. In the second floor "game room" loft, complete with a doorman/bouncer straight from central casting of The Road Warrior, alumni and faculty gathered in the annual tribal census.
The loft was so narrow that even taking photographs was a challenge.
Bryan Murley was attempting to take the "official" photographs for the department. You will have to probably check the EIU department web page or facebook galleries to find photographs of the event. We had a chance to literally bump into during the evening included faculty-alums Dave Reed, John Ryan, Sally Renaud, Lola Burnham, Theresa Norton Masek, Larry Smith, Jeff Britt, and Andy Robeznieks.
Reed made an appearance, but as usual he ducked out early so as not to corrupt his grandson to the evils of the new "content" journalism.
Ryan was present to remind people that journalism department's 100th anniversary is in 2015, so everyone should hold that year in abeyance for future EIU events.
Lola. Lola. Lola. She previews her new driving license photograph.

HOMECOMING 2013
It was an extremely slow news day last Saturday morning because the Fox News home page lead sports story was the 2013 Eastern Illinois football schedule.
What we did learn is that Eastern's annual Homecoming is set for the weekend of October 19, 2013.
This is probably the earliest mention of the homecoming date in history.
